The Tri-State Wilbert Vault Company originally opened in 1925. The company was named the Tri-State Supply Company. J. S. Beddall, Dr. W. F. Marting, and James R. Paul were the founders. The company was opened because many people thought the residents of Lawrence County should have a vault to use that would not rust and would not collapse from the weight of the earth.
The Ward Lumber Company was organized by W. Grant Ward in 1906. F. C. Tonlinson served as its vice president. E. F. Meyers was its secretary and D.C. Davies and Oscar Richey were directors. E. B. Dyer was responsible for building the large mill. In 1911, the big mill burnt to the ground and was rebuilt. Chief William George lost an eye during the blaze. The first engineer’s, John J. Brownstead, two sons, John and Joe, witnessed the fire. They took their bikes from the basement to across the street. The fire burned so hot it melted the tires on their bikes.
Located on the corner of Third Street and Kemp Avenue, the original building for the Whitwell General Store was built by John Isaacs in 1892. Mr. Isaacs was not stranger to the grocery business. He started his business on Second and Buckhorn Street in 1880. In 1901, Sam W. Boothe purchased the store and changed the name to S. W. Boothe & Co. Groceries and Feed. During Boothe’s ownership, the building became a postal substation and the city wagon scales became a part of the building. Mr.
The Wilson Athletic Goods Manufacturing Company was located on South 3rd Street. The company was located in the former Selby Shoe Corporation. Wilson’s produced baseball and football equipment. While in operation, the company was noted for his rigid quality control.

This is from the Bible of Euna Elizabeth Hagley Riley. Euna Elizabeth Hagley Riley was born in West Virginia, but lived and married in Chesapeake, Ohio for many, many years.
She married Ernest Garland Riley from Bradick and some parts of Greasy Ridge, Ohio. In 1951, she and Ernest divorced. They had four children during their marriage, Carlena, Joseph, Hayward, and Janice Rose.
Janice Rose Riley is still alive and resides in Florida.
