SUMMER 2025 Summer Reading Youth & Adult

FROM OUR DIRECTOR While the preparation and excitement for Summer Reading is everywhere in the library, I want to take a minute to reflect on all the changes BLCPL has brought to the community since we began moving “beyond books” in 2023. Since the start of my tenure, we’ve brought our bicycle lending program, our incredibly popular free notary service, a completely renovated children’s area at Ironton, and many new smaller collections in new formats to our catalog. Most recently our B3Makerspace at Chesapeake is open to the public allowing patrons to print 3D and use a Glowforge to create repair and design anything they can imagine. Up next is the community garden and grounds renovation at our Proctorville Branch. You may have noticed the branches getting a bit of a cleaning and polish as we complete repair and construction projects for 2025, but we are open and ready to serve you, no matter how many tarps or tools you might see at our locations. Pardon our mess and stop by. We’re excited to see items from our Library of Things make it out into the community in the warm weather. The hammock will be available for lending. Take it and a good book out into the summer sun and have a relaxing time on us. Embrace adventure and check out our tent and the metal detector to have an adventure mudlarking or magnet fishing at Lake Vesuvius. The possibilities, like the future, are limitless and BLCPL is committed to helping you make the most of it as you color your world during Summer Reading and all the year to come. Join the journey with BLCPL and make the library your own. Become a Friend of the Library and join us for programming and volunteering opportunities that promote your voice and your ideas at your library. Stay tuned because at BLCPL the best is yet to come!
