In April 1938, a year after the devastating 1937 flood, Ironton began a $3.85 million flood project. The project was to prevent Ironton from facing destruction by flooding in the future. As a result a flood wall was built to encompass the town. Although flooding still occurs fairly often, Ironton has never been under water as it was in 1937.
The Mural of dedicated to the Waterloo Wonders is not signed or dated. In the Phyllis Hamner Room, a drawing of the Waterloo Wonder floodwall mural can be found the in the Waterloo Wonders binder. The drawing was designed by Joshua McKenzie and dated December 30, 2003.
The Mural dedicated to the Lawrence County Veterans who gave their life in combat was completed on August 7, 2002. Gary Tillis and Patty Shively were the artists. Patty also painted the Memorial Day Parade Mural.
The Iron Bank and Star Bank Mural was completed in October 1994. Thomas H. Swick was the painter and is from Chesapeake, Ohio. Swick also painted the murals for The Ironton Steamer, and the Detroit, Toledo and Ironton Railroad.
The DT&I or Detroit, Toledo and Ironton Railroad had its roots in Ironton, Ohio. The railroad can be traced back to the Iron Railway which was incorporated in 1849 to transport farm products and mineral products from the fields of Lawrence County to Ironton. It was Dr. Caleb Briggs who suggested making Ironton the final destination for this railroad.
The section of the mural depicting the founder of Ironton, John Campbell is part of the larger mural featuring the welcome to Ironton, the Ohio State seal, the United States seal, and the painting of Nannie Kelley Wright. No part of the large section is signed or dated.
The Ironton, a steamboat, was depicted in the mural painted by Tom H. Swick in August 1992. Wick also painted the Detroit, Toledo and Ironton Railroad and Iron Bank mural.

Colonel W. C. Lambert and one of his airplane battles are depicted in the mural painted by G. W. Lavendar on August 10, 1993. The mural was entitled “Memory of Valor.”
The Ironton Tanks, a professional football team, was depicted in the last mural. This mural was completed by Steve Smith on August 1997.
