Summer Reading Programming and Events Saturday, June 1st – Saturday, July 27th Youth Summer Reading Program How It Works Beat boredom, have fun, and win prizes at the library this summer during our Summer Reading Program! Starting Saturday, June 1st, children and teens can sign-up by visiting their local library branch. It’s free and easy! Children 11 and under can read and participate in activities for the chance to win prizes! Sign-up to receive your activity log to start tracking your reading, completing challenges, and attending library events to earn tickets for prize drawings. Children will also receive small prizes for reaching reading achievement levels. Any child that reads for 1,800 minutes over the summer will receive a t-shirt! Teens, ages 12 – 18, can participate for a chance to win some great prizes, too! When signing up, receive a punch card to track the number of books read. Any teen that reads 8 books over the summer will receive a t-shirt. For checking out library materials or attending library events, teens will receive scratch tickets. Some tickets are instant prize winners, while others are nonwinning tickets. All non-winning tickets will be entered into end of summer prize drawings! Summer Reading Kick-Off Party Ironton – Saturday, June 1st at 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Help us kick off Summer Reading with an outdoor celebration! Stop by the Ironton Library for games and crafts, learn about community resources, meet animals from the BARKer Farm, and more! Sign-up for Summer Reading, too! Adventures in Folk Tales with Paul Strickland Ironton – Monday, June 24th at 5:00 p.m. Join nationally-renowned storyteller and theater artist, Paul Strickland as he performs his show featuring exciting, interactive stories and fun sing-along songs based upon Ohio and Kentucky folk tales and beyond! Fun for all ages! Meet the Author: Mindy McGinnis Ironton – Monday, July 1st at 5:30 p.m. Come meet Mindy McGinnis, best selling Young Adult author and an Edgar Award-winning novelist who writes across multiple genres. Mindy will discuss her novels, do a Q&A, and sign books. Copies of her books will also be available for purchase. The Professor Show: “Mysteries and Marvels: An Oddity Odessy” South Point – July 19th at 11:00 a.m. Proctorville – July 19th at 2:00 p.m. Join us for a fun, juggling, and comedy show with Professor Tony, the professor of nonsense and throwing things! Fun for the whole family! Tell Your Adventure Writing Contest Entries due Monday, June 17th – Saturday, June 29th For children and teens. We want to hear about your adventures! Tell as a story about an adventure you’ve been on or one you would like to go on. Age categories: 7 – 9, 10 – 12, and 13 – 17. Please limit your stories to no more than two pages. Drop your stories off at the library or email them to jangullet@briggslibrary.org. Winning entries will be shared in our libraries and on our social media. Registered participants of the summer reading program will receive an entry ticket for their respective prize drawings.
