BLCL Spring Newsletter 2025

FROM OUR DIRECTOR I am so pleased to enter this year serving the needs of Lawrence County. The commitment of BLCPL to the people of the county and adapting to your emerging needs as patrons remains our focus in 2025. We are taking firm steps to continue and expand our Beyond Books Initiative. I am proud to announce that BLCPL is the recipient of an LSTA grant to expand our services in the county. This grant will allow us to create a Makerspace and a 3-D print lab in our Chesapeake location which will offer guided classes in 3-D printing and other Makerspace creative opportunities, as well as open hours where all of the equipment, tools, and software in the lab will be open and available to the public for use. The space will also offer a professional grade CO2 laser engraver, a hot press for t-shirt creation and a variety of other creative tools to enrich the lives and knowledge of the entire community. The Beyond Books Makerspace will be open to experienced and dedicated 3-D crafters and wholly unfamiliar creative and curious users as well. We expect Makerspace to be open and operational in April 2025 at Chesapeake and we are excited to see what creative projects are developed as patrons old and new make our space theirs.
