As part of our America 250 celebrations, Briggs Lawrence County Public Library is proud to participate in Ohio Goes to the Movies, highlighting Ohio’s contributions to the world of cinema.
Join us for two special movie events featuring themed activities, presentations, trivia, games, complimentary refreshments, and, of course, great movies!
Ohio Goes to the Movies: Hocus Pocus

All Ages Welcome
Join us for a magical movie night featuring Hocus Pocus! Meet the Sanderson Sisters before the screening and enjoy fun, movie-themed activities. Costumes are encouraged! Come dressed as your favorite witch, spooky character, or in your Halloween best.
Did you know Hocus Pocus has an Ohio connection? Sarah Jessica Parker, who stars as Sarah Sanderson, was born in Nelsonville, Ohio, and spent part of her childhood living in Cincinnati.

Get ready for a night of horror and film history!
Shawnee State University instructor Eric Brown will present “Wes Craven and Horror Films,” exploring the legendary filmmaker’s Ohio roots and the lasting impact of his work on the horror genre. Following the presentation, stay for a screening of A Nightmare on Elm Street. Enjoy games, trivia, and an appearance by Freddy!
Whether you’re a horror fan or a film enthusiast, this event offers a fascinating look at one of cinema’s most influential directors and his connection to Ohio.
